Collaborative Accelerated Master’s Program in Mechanical Engineering between Assumption University and WPI

The Collaborative Accelerated Master's Program (CAMP) in Mechanical Engineering between Assumption University and WPI allows undergraduate students at Assumption University, after graduating with their bachelor's degree in Mathematics or Physics, to pursue an M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering at WPI in an accelerated manner. Assumption University students in majors relevant to Mechanical Engineering (including, Mathematics and Physics) or who otherwise have the necessary coursework may be eligible for this program.

This accelerated master’s program is part of the Collaborative Accelerated Master’s Programs (CAMPs) Framework between Assumption University and WPI. In addition to the rules and regulations stipulated in the CAMPs Framework between Assumption and WPI, the following sections provide additional information and rules specific to students who wish to obtain their M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering at WPI as part of this CAMPs Framework. 

Assumption University students interested in this accelerated M.S. Program in Mechanical Engineering at WPI are encouraged to consult with their undergraduate academic advisor and with the CAMP in Mechanical Engineering Coordinators at Assumption University and at WPI about course selection that would best prepare them for the master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at WPI. Students are encouraged to take recommended Engineering Science (ES) coursework from WPI during their sophomore and junior years at Assumption University, to prepare for the coursework in Mechanical Engineering at the senior and graduate levels.

Unless otherwise noted, Assumption University 4-credit undergraduate courses carry 3 WPI graduate credits; and Assumption University 3-credit undergraduate courses carry 2 WPI graduate credits. WPI 3-credit graduate courses carry 3 credits at Assumption University; and WPI 3-credit undergraduate courses carry 3 credits at Assumption University. Please note that WPI undergraduate courses are subject to an internal credit conversion when being counted for a WPI graduate degree, with 3 WPI undergraduate credits being equivalent to 2 WPI graduate credits. 
 

Undergraduate Preparatory Courses at WPI or Assumption University

Students are strongly recommended to take all the courses in at least three of the following four areas during their undergraduate studies, prior to taking senior- and graduate-level courses in those areas. Note that these courses cannot be counted towards the M.S. degree (since they are below the senior level). Unless specifically noted, students should check with their AU advisors to determine whether these courses can count towards their AU B.A. degree.

Courses marked with (*): Are eligible to count as Assumption University Physics electives.

**CHE 311 Physical Chemistry I is sufficient preparation for graduate-level ME Thermal Fluids courses, but not for 4000-level ME Thermal Systems Design courses (ME 4422 and 4429), which require WPI's ES 3001 course as preparation.
