The Graduate Certificate in STEM Education is designed for PreK-12 educators with or without STEM background, who want to enhance their teaching with high-quality STEM project and problem-based learning. The program weaves together STEM theory and classroom application, leading to enhanced, standard-aligned content knowledge and STEM pedagogy. The 12 graduate credits in this certificate program address the career needs of Massachusetts teachers pursuing the Professional License in any STEM related subject.
The synchronous online courses are interactive and engaging, allowing educators to connect, exchange ideas, and learn with and from one another. Evening and summer courses meet the needs of working educators.
This graduate certificate can be pursued on a standalone basis and can also lead to the Masters in
Integrated STEM Education (MISE) degree.
Program Learning Outcomes
1. Students will develop a deep understanding of integrated STEM education frameworks and best practices through collaborative experiential learning and review of STEM education literature.
2. Students will enhance their STEM teaching practices through collaboration with other educators and engage in reflective practice. Participants will be able to implement high-quality
STEM learning experiences (including curricular modules and assessment) in educational settings.
3. Students will engage in and further develop practices that foster classroom environments that address the various needs of their diverse learners by incorporating Universal Design for Learning principles.
4. Students will deepen and expand their content and/or pedagogical knowledge in STEM discipline(s) to support their teaching and/or professional licensure.
Admissions Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- PreK-12 educators holding or pursuing an initial, professional, or provisional teaching
license.
Note: This is not a licensure program and does not award a teaching license.
